Kwame Sarfo Awarded for Business Plan

by Joseph D'Allegro, April 14, 2020

Congrats to Healthcare Division Business Development Manager Kwame Sarfo for taking second place out of 35 competitors in the Rutgers Business Plan Competition last month.

Sarfo successfully pitched a plan to expand the Original Kaneshie Market, a West African and Caribbean grocery business he runs with his family in Central New Jersey. The $15,000 prize money he earned will be used to help open a second location in the state.

“It’s an honor to be recognized,” Sarfo said. “Our first location, in Parlin, NJ, has been going great, and my family and I hope to get a second store up and running within a year. I want to thank Will (Lutz) and Catherine (Tsavalas) from VentureLink for helping me fine tune the pitch.”

Sarfo earned his undergraduate degree from Rutgers, as well as a Master’s of Public Administration. He is currently studying for his MBA at NJIT, and is a member of VentureLink’s startup incubation program.

He has worked in the Healthcare Division since 2018.

In his spare time (which can only be measured in nanoseconds) Sarfo is an accomplished athlete who has competed in The Titan Games. He has also appeared on The Steve Harvey Show and Ellen, and been profiled in Men’s Health Magazine and The New York Post for his athletic prowess and ability to do a range of ludicrously difficult push-ups.
