by admin, August 23, 2019

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will host TEDxNJIT on Sept. 19, 2019 in the Jim Wise Theatre and via a live simulcast available to viewers worldwide. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, is themed “Resilience” and features leaders from business, academia, and the arts who will address a range of topics.

Speakers will explore ways that individuals, organizations, and civic entities can become stronger by focusing on initiatives that address social problems. Topics will include arts, entertainment, technology, and design. The event will bring together faculty and students to share their passion for new ideas and innovation. NJIT’s inaugural TEDx event took place in 2011.

“With the success of our previous TEDxNJIT events, we want to focus this year on ideas that engage the community to think about resilience and sustainability issues from a variety of perspectives,” said Judith Sheft, associate vice president for strategic relationships and external affairs at NJIT and the event’s co-organizer.  “We have put together an outstanding array of thinkers and visionaries to discuss topics of interest to everyone, as we all try individually to make the world a better place.”

Speakers will include A’Dorain Murray-Thomas, founder of She Wins, Inc.; Alexander and Celeste Huang, student journalists; Amy Hoover, assistant professor NJIT Ying Wu College of Computing; Andrew Zwicker, NJ State assembly member; Cesar Bandera, assistant professor NJIT Martin Tuchman School of Management and Colette Santasieri, executive director, policy and planning innovation for civil infrastructure and environment NJIT. Other speakers will include Donald Sebastian, president and CEO New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII); Grace Ibitamuno, Rutgers medical student; Jasmine Wahi, founder Project for Empty Spaces; Jason Vitug, author; Lakita LLyod, Newark student; Madison Jaye, journalist; Tomislav Antoljak, NJIT student and NJIT Flute Trio – NJIT music initiative.
The cost is $30 per ticket for the public, NJIT faculty, staff, and alumni.  Student tickets are $15.  To purchase tickets, register online: http://www.tedxnjit.com/register.  Food and beverages are included.

TEDxNJIT follows other TEDx university events, including those at Harvard University and Princeton University earlier this year.  TEDxNJIT invites the NJIT community and surrounding colleges and universities in Newark including Rutgers University, Essex County College, Berkeley College, and Seton Hall University.
