Mike Leavitt, former Governor of Utah and Secretary of Health & Human Services, and Aneesh Chopra, President of CareJourney and former CTO of the U.S., to Deliver Keynote Addresses on Using Data to Drive Value Innovation
NEWARK, NJ – March 4, 2019 – The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT Corporation, and the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (QI), are co-hosting the Fifth Annual Innovation Showcase on March 21, 2019 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Wellness and Events Center. Using Data to Drive Value Innovation will be the focus of this year’s showcase.
The Annual Innovation Showcase is expected to draw over 500 attendees, spanning across a wide range of healthcare professionals, government officials, and technology innovators. The role of data in driving innovation will be explored by facilitating conversation between technology specialists, policy experts and healthcare providers.
“The intersection between interoperability and value are at the forefront at our event this year,” said Tomas Gregorio, senior executive director of the New Jersey Innovation Institute’s Healthcare Delivery Systems iLab. “The federal government’s push toward sharing information in new and innovative ways will drive the development of disruptive “apps” and services resulting in data informed transformation toward value of doctors’ offices, hospitals and payers.”
Two esteemed speakers will be delivering keynote addresses during the first half of the showcase: Michael O. Leavitt, former governor of Utah who served as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (2003-2005) and secretary of Health and Human Services (2005-2009), and Aneesh Chopra, president of CareJourney, author, and first ever United States chief technology officer (2009-2012).
“We are 25 years into a 40 year transformation,” said Leavitt. “It is time…time for every participant in the U.S. healthcare sector to make a commitment to value. Not just a hedging ‘let’s see how this develops,’ but the emotional, psychological shift to ‘we’re going to do this,’ kind of commitment.”
This year’s showcase program includes a trio of afternoon breakout tracks–Government, Innovation, and Value–hosted by healthcare professionals, innovators and state and federal government specialists. Each track will explore different facets of healthcare through unique perspectives and sessions. A wide range of topics will be covered, from interoperability to perfecting your pitch using data and case studies in value innovation.
“You can’t innovate in a silo,” said Linda Schwimmer, president and CEO of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute. “Developing new technologies, methodologies and ways of delivering better quality healthcare requires collaboration between the best and brightest minds in the right fields. We’re thrilled to bring these people together at this year’s Innovation Showcase.”
NJII President and CEO, Donald H. Sebastian said, “Healthcare is entering a dramatic new era. Innovative advancements in technology, the use of data and interoperability are combining to improve the efficiency and value of healthcare delivery while improving patient outcomes. The Innovation Showcase is the ideal venue for learning more about these groundbreaking developments.”
Over 25 healthcare vendors and sponsors will be in attendance, displaying their products and sharing information with conference participants.
