Health IT Connections member Melissa Kozak is the Co-Founder and CEO of Citus Health, as a post-acute care nurse for many years, Melissa saw first-hand the chaos and frustration among patients and care providers as they struggled to receive and deliver prompt, cost-effective care; she watched as referral sources grew frustrated with complications that resulted from lack of compliance with therapy guidelines. Melissa founded Citus Health in 2016 to tackle these challenges head on.
Citis Health has designed Call Bell which serves the unique needs of the growing Post-acute care industry and the patients they serve as more hospitals, physicians and payers move to value-based reimbursement models that demand reduced care delivery costs and improved patient outcomes. As the industry grows, so does the need for more modern, automated business processes and systems, such as Call Bell.
“As a Post-acute care nurse for many years I saw the struggles my patients went through while undergoing home care treatments because of the lack of digital solutions available to them. When they had a question about their care, they had to call a call center, wait on hold, and many times not receive a call back at all. Also patients, often either had too many supplies that they had to throw out at the end of their treatment or not enough supplies when they actually needed them. I saw an opportunity to pull patient into the digital loop and as a clinical Post-acute care expert, I was uniquely qualified to face this challenge. In 2016 I teamed up with my co-founder who is a healthcare IT though leader and we created, Call Bell. Call Bell is a modern software solution that helps Post-acute care providers transform traditional workflows into efficient digital processes. Whether it is capturing digital signatures on orders and delivery tickets, entering accurate patient supply counts electronically, or even equipping patients with on-demand access to answers and clinicians, the Call Bell solution has a near-immediate positive impact on its customer’s bottom line” says Melissa.
Accessible through any mobile device or computer, Call Bell also streamlines the patient support process by providing immediate answers to common questions and enabling instant, staff-to-staff and staff-to-patient communications. This collaborative environment often results in less stress for patients and greater therapy compliance. As adherence rates and satisfaction scores climb, Post-acute care providers are better positioned to drive revenue from their referral sources and confidently take on value-based reimbursement contracts.
Citus Health recently raised a Friends/Family/Angel round of financing, signed 4 production customers (post-acute care providers) and have 2 additional trials and signed a marketing services partnership with the National Post-acute care Association. “The Health IT Connections program has been very beneficial. I’ve had the opportunity to network with other startups and entrepreneurs to share the wins, losses and swap stories. Getting advice from Travis, Mike and guest speakers on how to refine our pitch and company value propositions has been rewarding” say Melissa. Melissa is looking to connect with investors including strategic investors and introductions to customers.
