The Enterprise Development Center (EDC) an NJIT/NJII Organization, held a Venture Summit themed, Entrepreneurial Collaborations for Success at the NJIT campus November 3, 2017. Jerry Creighton, Sr., Executive Director of the EDC and Co-Founder of the NJIT Highlanders Angel Network (NJITHAN) introduced the program participants.
With more than 150 participants from industry, venture capital and investor organizations in attendance, opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Joel Bloom, president, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Judith Sheft – associate vice president technology development, New Jersey Institute of Technology/NJII. The summit featured Dr. Randal Pinkett, CEO and chairman, BCT Partners and David J. Sorin, managing partner, McCarter & English as keynote speakers.
Panel discussions focused on raising angel investor funding and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the City of Newark. Featured panelists included Dr.Michael Ehrlich, New York Angels, NJIT Highlanders Angel Network, and NJIT Tuchman School of Management, Tom Wisniewski, managing partner Newark Venture Partners and Gerard Adams, millennial mentor and CEO of Fownders.
The event focused on growth opportunities possible with industry collaborations, updates from investors’ perspectives, the evolving Newark entrepreneurial community, and the impact of technology in our changing global world. The EDC is located on the campus of NJIT and typically includes 90 high-tech, life-science and engineering oriented developing companies per year. The EDC conducts NJIT’s economic mission while working in cooperation with the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII).
