Enterprise Development Center

About

Technology and life-science companies face many challenges along the way to becoming profitable businesses and dynamic participants in the economic life of New Jersey and the nation. Meeting the challenges of successful commercialization requires a broad range of knowledge and resources — from finding the right working space and attracting investment capital to building staff and developing effective business plans and marketing strategies. Since 1988, the Enterprise Development Center (EDC) — operated by New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) —  has given companies a critical edge in all of these areas. The EDC is also a partner of the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT corporation that applies the entrepreneurial and technical resources of the state’s science and technology-university to challenges identified by industry cluster partners.
Residence at the EDC is open to early-stage companies that have, or will have, proprietary technology as a significant source of revenue. The nearly 90 companies currently housed at the EDC employ over 400 people and have attracted more than $50 million in third-party funding. In recent years, company revenues have topped $82 million and have spurred acquisitions and joint ventures with some of the world’s leading corporations.

The National Business Incubation Association has designated the EDC as a “Soft Landings” international center, capable of assisting nondomestic companies entering the U.S. marketplace, and we are proud to be located in Newark’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) and Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone).

Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can't.
