Igniting Innovation

Who We Are

New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) was founded in 2014 as a non-profit Think Tank and combines the vast resources of the R1 level New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), strong industry and government relationships, and proven methods to drive innovation and deliver transformative products and services. NJIT is the regional leader in producing STEM talent and NJII is the engine to ignite innovation through this collaboration.

This positions NJII as the leader in driving innovation in the State of New Jersey.  We accomplish this through a wide range of initiatives including AI adoption and ethics, digital transformation, workforce development, advanced manufacturing, startup incubation and acceleration.  Our partners include the US Army Department of Defense, the New Jersey Division of Health and Human Services, Federal Aviation Administration, and several major corporations that call New Jersey their home.  Learn more about how we engage with corporations here.

Recognition as New Jersey’s Best Places to Work for 2024

NJII has earned the rank of New Jersey’s Best Places to Work for 2024, for a Medium-sized company (50-249 employees).  The program confidentially collects data, allowing workers to share feedback about their employers, and for those companies to learn from and act on that knowledge.   To be eligible for consideration, organizations must meet several criteria, including having a facility in New Jersey.  NJBIZ recognizes NJII for scoring high across areas of employee engagement, role satisfaction, corporate culter and communication as well as work environment.  Learn more about career opportunities here

Our Vision

The NJII North Star is to double in size by exceeding $70M in revenue by 2030. This will be accomplished by diversifying revenue streams, launching new divisions and programs, building additional for-profit companies and partnering closely with NJIT.

Our Mission

We are passionate about addressing a fundamental challenge with research universities which is that it is difficult for industry and governmental organizations to leverage the vast resources of these universities. NJII is designed to be the conduit between NJIT and the outside world while providing a significant economic impact for New Jersey. As a standalone corporation, NJII is uniquely positioned to accelerate technology translation, foster innovation and upskill workers by being able to move quickly and be nimble while leveraging the resources of NJIT.

How We Operate

NJII is uniquely positioned to be agile, entrepreneurial and opportunistic. NJII was launched to act as the conduit between NJIT intellectual property and external industry, public and private.  NJII is able to bring together R-1 university resources with government, private and public sector partners in order to address novel gaps in the marketplace.  We are organized into innovative divisions that guide these initiatives: AI/ML, Defense, Entrepreneurship, Healthcare and Learning & Development.  Focused on results, NJII has generated over $330M in revenue during its ten years of operation and today has a growing team of 100+ members.  Learn more about how we operate here.

When we have different groups of experts cross collaborating and sharing ideas and taking those and running with them what we end up with is a powerful example of one of those situations where the sum of all the pieces is far better than the individual parts.

Folks are beginning to understand the value of having their health information available to any doctor who needs to see them, without resorting to outdated methods like paper mail and fax. Interoperability and data integration-including the NJHIN-are the ways that New Jersey will get there.
